Bobby Griffin Memorial Stadium
Dear City Council & Mayor of South Pasadena, CA and all interested in OSG memories .
Growing up in South Pasadena, CA from 1955 - 1974 were the best of times
I am proposing that a permanent plaque be placed at Arroyo Vista School where I attended when it was Lincoln School. in the 1973 after my brothers passing Mike Brey and Tom Brey brothers who grew up in South Pasadena and were regulars at the LincolnSchool wiffle ball area where we played at named it the the Bobby Griffin Memorial Stadium. Bobby my late brother was a regular at the wiffle ball playiing field at Lincoln School and sadly left us in the flesh in 1973 as the result of a small plane crash while he was atteding UCSB.
The proposed plaque would be placed at the former Home Plate area of the former Wiffle Ball Playing area we called it Stadium where kids from all throughout South Pasadena played every weekend honing their wiffle ball and athletic skills that is before the fences came up restricting the use of the playing field.
A tree was planted smack dab in the middle of the field in the 70s to discourage kids from hopping over the fence to play wiffle ball on the weekends at Lincoln School.
I no longer live in So Pas but would be willing to pay for the plaque and have it placed if the City Council approved. Also would be in favor of the Arroyo Vista going back to it's original name Lincoln School named to honor and remember our President Abraham Lincoln. Last but not least if South Pasadena Park and Recs has it in their Budget would love to see a permanent Bobby Griffin Memorial Wiffle Ball Stadium for Kids to enjoy for years to come. Each year South Pasadena High School awards a Bobby Griffin Memorial Scholarship to a deserving Senior at South Pasadena pursuing a career in art .
This Memorial Plaque at Arroyo Vista where Bob attended Elementary School from K- 6th grade would be a great honor and add to his legacy and certainly would be visited and remembered by all who grew up playing Wiffle Ball at Lincoln School at the Perfect Wiffle Ball Stadium
